Patience in functional training. When do the results arrive?
Hey, hey… Don’t tell me you were thinking of giving it up…
It never fails, if you are reading this post it’s because you are fed up with hammering yourself training and not seeing results. Isn’t that right?
What were you hoping for, that Cross Training was going to convert you into Rambo in just a couple of weeks? Miracles don’t exist, and Dragon Ball cartoons haven’t done us any good… at the moment, smashing a planet to bits is a little bit far fetched, but a middle ground exists and the results will come, don’t be so impatient!
What’s happening is normal, common, frequent, understandable, human… you’re not singular or strange, straightforwardly, you are a normal person.
We all have our ups and downs and we can change from feeling highly motivated to feeling totally deflated in just a question of days. Moreover, I’m going to tell you a secret:
Physical tiredness has an influence (a great deal) on our moods…
That’s nothing, don’t be a softy
However serious you’ve taken the first four classes you’ve been to, I hate to tell you this but, you have only just begun. And you’re thinking: sh**, what a way to cheer me up!
Don’t hold it against me, I’m only trying to smack your pride right in the face ;)
Do you feel like smacking me back on the face, but with a punch? Well, we’re on the right path!
For the short amount time you’ve dedicated to your functional training, it’s impossible for you to have achieved radical changes.
Don’t be in a hurry and enjoy the journey, the harder it seems to get there, the more you’ll appreciate the result.
Nevertheless, I don’t believe you haven’t noticed any improvement, however small it may be… come on, think a little, I’m sure there is something that’s changed in you. But don’t look on the outside, stop looking at yourself in the mirror and posing. Look on the inside.
Do you feel proud of yourself, even if it’s for just a minute? If the answer is yes, why don’t you go on a bit further and see what happens next?
Because… the problem isn’t that you are past the point of no return, is it? Do you find yourself reflected in what you see?:
Well, you’d better slow the rhythm down champ, put one foot in front of the other.
I’m going to give you a tip on how to feel better and how to go back and find the motivation you’ve lost. Have you noticed you’re breathing a bit better? (I hope the answer is yes, because I’ve raised my spirits by taking this for granted, haha).
Seriously, determination, my friend. That’s what you need. A good dose of enthusiasm and pride to be able to keep quiet those who are thinking “he/she’s only going to last a couple of days…”.
Sorry if I’m being a bit hard on you, it’s just that I’ve seen a lot of people go through the same stage as you’re going through. Some have passed it and couldn’t feel happier or as proud of themselves as they do today. And others… well, the truth is I don’t know what has happened to the others who gave up, I haven’t seen them at the box again.
It’s a pity, because we all become part of a small family, supporting one another and to be honest, I would like you to experience that as well.
I’m being a bit unfriendly because I think it’s the only way to touch on your self-esteem and for you to reconsider and decide to come back to the cross training group. You’ll discover how your body changes little by little until the objectives you began your training with have been reached.
You’re in time to make sure that what you have done up until now, doesn't go to waste. It’s not bad either that you’ve stopped for a couple of days, that is, if it helps you to resume functional training with more strength.
Ok, ok, but when am I going to see the results…?
Want to go straight to the point? Come on, I’m going to give you a deadline: give yourself a month.
When your first month is up, you’ll begin feeling like an ox, you’ll seem stronger, with more energy and agility. But watch out! A month of doing things properly… talk to your coach and tell him/her how you feel, I’m sure he/she’ll know how to get you back on the road.
Bear in mind that everyone has individual genetics, a distinct starting point and a physical shape also different to other people. That’s why you shouldn’t despair if you see that your friend notices the results of his training before you notice yours. Be patient!
You should only think about yourself. Strictly follow advice that professionals give you and be a little bit more demanding.
After the first four weeks you’ll start to notice changes in your body and you’ll be breathing better (hey, what a pain I am with the breathing thing), you’ll notice that your stronger and more lively. It’s a question of finding it appealing and converting it into a routine, but a really cool routine. You’re going to want to mark new goals and exceed yourself. And what’s more important, your health is going to be enormously grateful to you.
This isn’t a procedure, but a lifestyle. If you manage to get through the first month, your goal will be to get through the second one, and then… Well, there’s no need to tell what you’ll want to get through after the second month, is there?
If you’re capable of achieving this and you don’t give up, then you’re going to start seeing substantial changes in your body’s appearance. Your belly’s going to shrink, your muscles are going to be more developed, you’ll see how your body fat index is reduced, and all of this is going to help your mental toughness. All in due time little grasshopper.
That’s why, I urge you to come back to us and don’t push cross training to one side. We miss you. Come back champ!
